Communication is Key...

One of the problems we face, daily, in our relationships is communication, or a lack of it. I talk, every day, with my girlfriend. The bulk of our conversation tend to be affirmations of love and affection. They would, at points, seem, well, pointless. It is important to maintain those bonds in such a relationship. But, it is equally important to attain an understanding of each other. To do this requires a bit more than those affirmations. It requires deep, and even "scary" context. The same is true of our world and the reality in which we all reside. To understand reality, we must be willing to go "where angels fear to tread." We must explore to regions which may seem depressing, or foreboding. to do this with any hope of equanimity, we must do so with an open mind.

In my communication with my girlfriend, I've tried to share some of the stark realities of the world. I've tried discussing with her the reality of global climate shifts, and the evidence of past ice ages. I've also tried to share with her some of the evidence for other things in our world. But, she always stops the conversation short, saying she doesn't want to talk about such things, because it is too scary.

But, if we are ever going to solve the problems threatening mankind, we will need to get past such fears, and face, head on, such realities. We cannot simply bury our heads in the sand and pretend the problems don't exist, for so long as we can't see them. That is the strategy of the ostrich.
